Field Trip

Some archaeological sites located in the eastern coast of Asturias (one hour distance from Santander) will be visited during the trip. Most of them are typical “asturian” shell middens: Toralete, Cuevas del Mar and El Mazo. The last one mentioned is now in course of excavation. The rock art site of Peña Tu (Early Bronze Age) will be also visited. Peña Tu is the most relevant example of schematic art in Cantabrian Spain. It is located 165 m above sea level and close to the sea, so during the visit of Peña Tu we will also have a very good view of the area where the shell middens are located. The field trip is included in the conference registration fee
